Louisiana native and musical institution Doug Duffey combines six decades of hard won piano wood-shopping and song crafting to deliver his unique take on music from the Delta. While the blues occupy a generous portion on Duffey’s musical plate, he and his bandmates’ mastery of the flavorings of southern soul, biting funk, and the sweetest of delta melodies makes for a most satisfying live music experience that lives forever in the groove. With a rhythm section tighter than a snappin’ turtle’s bite, made up of Benjamin Ford on bass and Adam Ryland on drums, provides an impervious pocket for Duffey’s two fisted rhumba rhythms on piano and Daniel Sumner’s mad professorial stylings on his searing six string guitar. DOUG DUFFEY

KEYS & VOCALS

Born in Monroe, Louisiana, Doug began singing and playing piano at an early age; he was composing and performing professionally by age 14. His first single, recorded in Nashville in 1970, was chosen by Billboard, Cashbox, and Record World as a “Pick Hit” and broke into the top 100 charts. He has written songs for and/or recorded with George Clinton, Funkadelic, Rare Earth, Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell, Keith Richards, Herbie Hancock, David Byrne, Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, Anders Osborne, Marcia Ball, and other artists. He has been called “one of the most prolific songwriters living in Louisiana” and has recorded many albums of original material to date. A poetic lyricist, his songs are intelligent, intellectual, sophisticated and soulful, whether solo or with full production; on record or performed live. He was inducted in to the Delta Music Museum’s Hall-of-Fame in 2025.

DAN SUMNER

GUITAR & VOCALS

Dan is a Louisiana-based guitarist and music producer. As an internationally-acclaimed guitarist, he performs and tours the world regularly with acts such as Doug Duffey and BADD; Louisiana Soul Revival featuring Doug Duffey; Steve Howell; the Louis Romanos Quartet; the LA Legacy Jazz Band; Glynn Styler; Janice Jaffee, and many others. He owns and operates Fort Sumner Studio where he has recorded and/or produced dozens of critically-acclaimed albums.

BENJAMIN FORD

BASS GUITAR

Ben is an original member of BADD. He is a seasoned professional and highly sought after performer and studio musician. Ben’s aggressively smooth approach to the “bottom end” of BADD’s rhythm section makes him an essential player in BADD’s legendary groove. A true virtuoso, Ben is a featured soloist on several songs in BADD’s live shows.

ADAM RYLAND

DRUMS

Adam is the “broad shoulders” on which the BADD sound sits. From funk to folk he can be counted on to provide just the right touch with a drum style akin to a Bruce Lee “one-inch” punch. A punch that delivers immense power at close range. The show within the BADD show is the always solid, forever funky, BADD rhythm section. You gotta see it and feel it to believe it!

Duffey has been mining this musical vein for more than half a century with his singing, songwriting and keyboard work, starting professionally at age 14. He’s carried this soulful gumbo from New Orleans to the rest of the world with national and international performances. Duffey has created his music long enough and powerfully enough to be enshrined in the National Blues and Louisiana Halls of Fame, and the Northeast Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. In short, to paraphrase Willie Dixon, Duffey has dug the roots, and we harvest the sweet fruits.

Now Duffey has dug deep into his traditions for the riches of his latest album, “Ain’t Goin’ Back,” a celebration of his music with his band, BADD (a title carved from the first initials of band members’ first names). BADD includes Duffey on vocals and keyboards; Dan Sumner on guitars and electric and acoustic bass, percussion, vocals and trumpet; Adam Ryland on drums and Ben Ford on bass. A few talented players complete this lineup: Dave P. Moore on harp, Jonathan Patterson on trombone and Bert Windham on trumpet. Duffey and Sumner co-produced.
